'Typical Local' was established in 2006 by Johnathan Hopp. It is a workshop for the design and production of slip cast ceramic pieces.
The workshop's main line, an expanding collection of building miniatures, traces the identity of a place through it's man made landscape. The mundane, quintessential, and exceptional buildings in the collection reflect locality in different ways. The mundane is the basic block of identity, it is the most common feature of a physical place. After, come the quintessential buildings, which are commonly found in ones thoughts and ideas of a place, and lastly the exceptional buildings, which are abundantly found in architecture books.

Each piece made by typical local is manually cast, fired and decaled in the workshop in Tel Aviv, and the packaging and ceramic decals are made locally. Our view of production is that it is a direct continuation of the design process, and that the only way we will be entirely happy with a product is if we make it ourselves.
